With Kumar Sangakkara who was appointed captain of
the Kandurata Warriors team
in the inaugural Sri Lanka
Premier League Tournament set to start on the 11th of August
picking up an injury in the 3rd ODI against India yesterday and has been ruled
out of cricket for 6 weeks, former Sri Lankan Captain and opening batsmen and
Member of Parliament Sanath Jayasuriya is tipped to be appointed as captain to
lead the Kandurata team informed sources say.
Sanath who captained the Sri Lanka national cricket
team from 1999 to 2003 retired from all forms of International cricket in June
2011. Sanath is the only player who has scored more than 13000 runs and
captured more than 300 wickets in the limited over games and is considered one
of the best all rounders in the history of international cricket and also a
game changer in the limited over format.
The Kandurata team management is yet to officially
announce the new captain and with the tournament set to begin in less than 15
days, quick decision needs to be made.
